Northeast Data Vault Keeps the Boston Marathon Running
Marlborough, MA, (April 8, 2004) - For the fourth consecutive year,
Northeast Data Vault is the hub of the Boston Marathon's worldwide Internet
presence. The company, which has been designated the Official Data Center
Service Provider of the Boston Marathon, houses the Boston Athletic
Association's web site www.baa.org year-round. But on race day the
company's data center in Marlborough is home to additional servers that
collect and disseminate real-time information about the progress of the
race's 20,000 registered runners.
Friends, fellow runners, and race fans throughout the world visit the
B.A.A.'s web site www.bostonmarathon.org on race day. Last year Northeast
Data Vault sourced more than 60 megabits per second of Internet traffic
during the race - about 5 million Web pages overall. This year 6 million
page views are expected over the busiest 6 hours of race day.
According to Glenn Friedly, President and CEO of Northeast Data Vault, "We
are very pleased to be a trusted supplier to the B.A.A. The Boston Marathon
is the B.A.A.'s flagship event of the year, and they have demanding needs
during the race. Flash crowds like those that visit the Boston Marathon web
site on race day provide a unique opportunity for us to showcase the
capabilities of our data center and our ability to support challenging
customer requirements."
John Burgholzer, Technology Coordinator for the Boston Marathon adds, "We
have only one opportunity to get this right, so reliability is vital. We
work with our technology partners to deploy significant infrastructure to
collect, aggregate, and disseminate data on race day. As the hub of our
efforts, Northeast Data Vault's facility provides the reliability and
network capacity that we need to distribute our data around Boston and
worldwide using the Internet."
